The street party in Colwell Road, Berinsfield, to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 looked in danger when organisers realised they had left it too late to apply for a street close order.
But the day was saved when neighbours organised one across their two gardens.
Thirty children enjoyed a treasure hunt, a three-legged race and musical chairs and tucked into cakes, sandwiches, jellies and trifles.
