Carol Bunyan worked for BBC TV for 12 years before becoming a freelance writer and director.

A member of the Voice Box choir, she lives in Witney, which is the setting for her first novel The Choir Mistress (Legend, £7.99), a thriller about a choir driven by their choir mistress’s Machiavellian obsession.

Ms Bunyan, a descendant of John Bunyan, author of The Pilgrim’s Progress, has dedicated her book to the choir, and says none of the characters bear any resemblance to choir member.
