OXFORD’S Muslim community came together yesterday to offer special funeral prayers for a teenager who drowned in the River Thames.

The ‘Janazah’ prayer was held at Central Oxford Mosque, Manzil Way, yesterday afternoon to remember 15-year-old Hussain Mohammed, who lived in Cumberland Road.

An inquest into the teenager’s death was opened and adjourned on Monday.

The prayers came as dozens of tributes have been paid to the former Oxford Spires Academy pupil on social networking site Facebook.

So far more than 280 people have ‘liked’ the page , messages have been left by loved ones and a tribute video has been viewed more than 2,000 times.

Tay George Raven said: “It’s such a sad feeling when you find out someone so special like you has died.

“They always say the good die young, which means you’re one of them, miss all them times we had. Sleep tight baby, I love you Hussain.”

And Deshy Shakur said: “Hussain you was a sweet gentle guy always with that amazing smile coming up to me saying hi.

“That perked up my day by seeing you always happy may Allah rest your beautiful soul.

“Love you bro.”

Hussain died after jumping from Donnington Bridge with a female friend on Friday.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
