A MAN who plotted to snatch a child off the street for sex has been detained for public protection under the Mental Health Act.

Anthony Baker registered on Flirtomatic.com and struck up a conversation about child pornography with another user.

The 22-year-old, of Chatham Road, South Oxford, brought up the subject of “kiddie porn” and discussed finding a 10-year-old child on the street.

The conversation was passed to police by the website and officers later found five indecent videos of children on his computer.

Baker was convicted by jurors of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex attempt and admitted making indecent photographs of children.

The offences took place in May 2010.

At the sentencing hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Monday, psychiatrist Jonathan Shapero said: “We found Mr Baker to be a very complex case. When he first came to us it was difficult to identify exactly what the problems were.

“We can now say with confidence he has an autistic-spectrum disorder. He has an anxiety disorder and we are also fairly confident he has a mental illness which is something that has only fairly recently been apparent.”

Baker will only be released when he is assessed as no longer posing a danger.
