I was horrified to read your front page report (last Wednesday’s Oxford Mail), stating that the League of Friends volunteer cafe at the John Radcliffe Hospital was going to be sent a bill for £25,000 in rent by the hospital trust.

I worked at the Radcliffe Infirmary for 25 years and then worked in the League of Friends until the RI closed.

During the years, they had given a great deal to the hospital, in equipment and medical needs, as the John Radcliffe cafe has done, indeed donating £63,000 to the hospital during the past year alone.

The League of Friends cafe is a welcome place for visitors, who have travelled many miles.

It is disgusting that the League of Friends’ volunteers should be treated like this.
