So miracles do happen! I have just been watching Countryfile on BBC1 and apparently Jeremy Clarkson has acquired a farm.

I always thought of him as the enemy of wildlife with his craze for fast cars and his (probably) impulsive remarks on his TV motoring show Top Gear.

But it seems there is another side to him.

He wants to see “loads of butterflies” on his land and even has owl boxes and loves to see the owls coming and going.

He is yet to find a dedicated interest in insects, etc, but at least there is hope in that he wants to attract “many, many birds” to his farm.

Therefore he will eventually realise that he needs to attract insects for certain birds to feed on.

Come on, Jeremy. You have the money to farm with almost extinct farm animals (just as Adam Henson does on Countryfile).

You can really help to save the countryside, even if you use a Ferrari car as a ‘hide’ to watch out for wildlife – and yes, I am sure you can acquire one in the colour green!

You are also in a position to help persuade councils not to sell off council-owned farms, where farmers have worked so hard on them as tenants for many, many years, yet cannot afford to buy them, in spite of the dedication they have put into them.

Don’t let them be turned into posh houses.

I look forward to your wildlife photographs, Jeremy.

After all, you did say (on Countryfile) you would rather have the countryside than money in the bank!
