SINCE he was a child, John Broad has had an interest in flying, and now he has been recognised for his support of aviation.

Mr Broad, left, received the Bronze Medal of the Royal Aero Club from its president, the Duke of York, earlier this month.

He was one of just 32 people to receive an award in the 2011 tranche of medals, awards, diplomas and trophies.

Mr Broad, 67, of Langford Village, Bicester, was nominated by the Light Aircraft Association, (LAA) for promoting air sport.

He said: “It was a real surprise.

“I would quite often see something going on and think I would like to be involved, so I joined the various committees and associations to put something back into aviation.

“When someone says you have been doing so much we want to give you an award that’s quite humbling.”

Mr Broad has been a member of the LAA for 30 years and a former chairman of the Vintage Aircraft Club.
