I read the article by about an ambulance driver who was moaning about getting a ticket for going through the High Street bus gate (Oxford Mail, May 22).
He should get a ticket, for ignoring the posted signs.
He does not fall into the category of an exempted vehicle, of which there are already too many.
To allow ambulances would open the floodgates for everyone.
He had no real need to go that way, except to save himself (he said his passenger) time.
Volunteers still have to follow regulations.
It is bad enough for private hire drivers using it for a short cut when they shouldn’t, and all the others who can’t read signs, without another group who are are permitted.
The High Street should have bus gates at both ends, the other being up at Carfax.
It is so dangerous for pedestrians, what with delivery vehicles, cyclists, not to mention the taxis and buses that use that road.
All other vehicles should be prohibited.
