Oxford University is setting out its plans for the Park Hospital in Headington at public exhibitions for staff and residents.

It will confirm the 28-acre Headington site is to combine with the neighbouring £57m Old Road campus to form a medical research park.

The university is consulting with residents today and tomorrow on issues such as transport and landscaping, prior to submitting an outline planning application to the city council in the summer.

University spokesman Matt Pickles said: “The university’s vision for the campus is to create an internationally-renowned centre of biomedical excellence. The Park Hospital site will provide capacity for further research facilities to be developed.”

The site is currently occupied by the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, which will relocate over the next 10 to 15 years.

The Old Road and Park Hospital sites would be fully integrated.

“We are now preparing a framework to guide our plans to combine the sites,” said Mr Pickles.

But the university is now faced with trying to win over residents, who fear it will add to congestion in the area and have expressed fears about the loss of trees and impact on the wooded character of the grounds.

Hilary Rollin, of Old Road and a member of the Highfield Residents’ Association, said: “Congestion around here is already horrific. Our objective is to work closely with the university on this.”

Exhibitions are taking place at the Old Road Campus Research Building in Roosevelt Drive, Headington.
