Villagers held a draw in 1967 to mark Edward the Confessor’s Day and raise money for their 10th century church, aptly named Edward the Confessor.

Lord Elton, left, is seen in the picture above drawing the winning tickets, assisted by Colonel Charles Appleby. The main prize was a quilt 14 women took three years to make. The draw raised £100 for the church restoration fund.

The middle picture shows Len Panting carrying out repairs to the church roof in 1962, while in the picture below, headteacher Marleen Whitehurst is seen with some of her pupils in 1978 as the village school was facing closure.
