Sir – Your article on the newly named Cowley Retreat pub was a bit of a filler was it not? Surely this cannot be a newsworthy item the way it was presented?

A Cowley Retreat not in Cowley! Wow in that case we need to rename the Cowley Road on which it stands surely, which would be a better news item than that published. How about; The Cowley Retreat on an East Oxford Road which leads from Cowley?

Surely the name gives a possible clue, retreat from Cowley which makes a little sense does it not?

For a real pub name news story you could always resurrect The Punter on Osney Island and mention that very few, or no punts have ever gone past on the river outside and it should never have been changed from the very apt Watermans Arms and yes, no apostrophe.
