WITNEY’S blanket making history was explored by youngsters from the town in performances this week.
Year eight to 11 students from Wood Green School have been working with Pegasus Theatre in Oxford to devise the pieces. The performances, staged at Pegasus, tell the story of how people had to work in poor conditions in the industry Witney was once famous for.
Wood Green pupil Emma Stratton, 13, of North Leigh, said: “It has been really good fun.
“It is the first time I have ever done anything like this, but I have always wanted to be a theatre actress.
“It helped me pick my options for GCSEs and I really enjoyed it.”
The Pegasus Theatre’s Gill Jaggers said: “This is the second time we have done this and it has gone really, really well. It is a different way of approaching subjects.
“It has shown young people and schools how to work with performing arts as a way of unlocking new information and ways of looking at things.
“It has also helped people become less afraid of performing arts, which are very much for everyone.”
