THE life of a loyal Oxford United supporter was celebrated next door to the club’s home at the Kassam Stadium yesterday.

Lifelong fan Jack Hatton, 19, lost his battle with leukaemia in October last year.

Despite his illness, the Carterton teenager did not miss a match in the club’s 2009-10 promotion winning season.

And when first told he needed treatment, he told doctors it would have to wait until after Oxford United’s next game.

Family, friends and supporters yesterday came together for a memorial event at the Priory pub to raise money for cancer charity Clic Sargent.

His dad Phil, 57, said: “Oxford United meant everything to Jack. It was his life.

“And Clic Sargent were very good to us, they helped a lot. So we want to raise as much as possible for them.”

The family has already collected more than £5,000 for the charity, including £1,500 in donations from Jack’s funeral.

Activities yesterday included a bouncy castle and rodeo bull and an auction of Oxford United memorabilia, including the chance to be a mascot for a day at one of the team’s matches.

All the money raised will go to help children in Oxfordshire.

Jack’s older brother Wayne, 27, said: “Jack would have loved this. United were his life. Everything he did was for Oxford United, so it’s a good place to remember him.”
