Teachers have said they are “scared” of the impact of academies on the education of the city’s youngsters.
Members of the Oxford City branch of teaching union NASUWT are at the organisation’s national conference in Birmingham.
Michelle Codrington-Rogers, NASUWT local secretary, said: “We all want to see what’s best for the children of Oxford. However, forcing schools into academies through bribery, coercion and financial threats is not in the best interests of children.”
Those in favour of academies say they offer more freedom to organise schools’ finances and can mean extra money.
