The last moments of the life of Jesus Christ were recreated yesterday in Oxford’s Cowley Road.
Two hundred people gathered to watch a passion play, which reenacted Jesus’s betrayal and painful last walk carrying the cross.
Actors staged scenes between Cowley Road Methodist Church and the Church of St Mary and St John, pausing at key points along the way.
Jesus, who was played by Mischa Richards, of St Stephen’s Theological College, could be seen betrayed in the college gardens and later flogged and given the crown of thorns behind Tesco.
The play was written by the Rev Damian Feeney of St Stephen’s.
Participating churches were Cowley Road Methodist Church, the Church of St Mary and St John, St Stephen’s House, St Clement’s Church and Greyfriars.
