TORY chairman Baroness Sayeeda Warsi’s campaign trail hit Oxford yesterday – as she admitted the Conservatives were unlikely to win a seat in the city at next month’s council elections.
Baroness Warsi visited Oxford Hub, in Turl Street, where students from both universities get involved with social causes across the city, before meeting the party’s candidates for the local elections.
She is pictured, right, talking to students with Student Hub director Adam Boyle and Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood.
Baroness Warsi said: “It is my job to go out there to fight elections and win elections.
“I would love to make gains in Oxford, and in recent years we have come close.
“I hope that in due course we will have a councillor as well, but this visit is not about immediate electoral success. It is about making sure Oxford is being heard.”
There have not been any Tory councillors on Oxford City Council since 2008.
