Sir – My GP has asked me to make an outpatient appointment at the John Radcliffe Hospital. In addition to providing a booking reference number, I have been sent a ridiculous password, and a message on the clinic telephone tells me I cannot make an appointment without it.

I protested about this before, and was told they were reconsidering this, but obviously nothing has happened.

I have a booking reference number, a hospital number and an NHS number, plus personal details like date of birth to identify myself. Why is yet another layer of bureaucracy being foisted on us to access the service we pay for? Do other readers agree?
