Sir – Could I thank everyone who campaigned over residents’ parking in East Oxford (Report, March 29). I would also like to thank councillor Rodney Rose, the county cabinet member for transport, for listening to local people.

The Divinity Road area and Bullingdon Road to Magdalen Road Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) will go ahead. But the CPZ between Magdalen Road and Howard Street will be delayed until at least six months after the other CPZs are in place, to judge the impact on local parking.

It would have been an outrage if a CPZ had been imposed on an area where 78 per cent of residents said ‘no’ to the scheme.

Local people know best how to deal with parking problems. There is now a real chance that the unpopular third CPZ will never be implemented.
