Sir – I was pleased to see Mr Eldridge’s letter of support for the proposed improved rail connection with Oxford city and Marylebone (March 29).
However I understood that the bat problem had been dealt with. In any case, as these creatures had lived for many years with trains passing their front doors, would a few more trains have concerned them I ask?
Further, the questions of noise and vibration are, I agree, very important. But were these not really pushed hard enough at the originally inquiry.
What was £10m of our money spent on, only to end up with more of our funds being spent on yet another inquiry? When, at the same time, our social and welfare services are being cut for lack of funding.
Surely the point has now been reached when the question of bats and wildlife issues have been agreed and other issues like track vibration protection could now be settled round the table with Chiltern Rail, without the need for yet another expensive inquiry.
