A MOTORIST who slammed into another car as he undertook and then drove at the occupants after they got out has been jailed.

Andrew Richardson was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday after the incident in Bicester.

The 35-year-old, of Banbury Road, Kidlington, admitted dangerous driving, theft of a number plate, failing to stop after an accident and resisting arrest.

The former drug addict, who has a string of previous convictions, was jailed in 2004 for another incident of dangerous driving.

This latest episode took place on the A41 at Bicester on November 27 and involved Richardson attempting to undertake a female driver as both cars approached the roundabout close to the M40.

Recorder Simon Blackford said: “You behaved aggressively in your driving towards her, coming up very close behind her and then, as she approached a roundabout, you attempted to undertake her on the hard shoulder.

“That part of the hard shoulder gradually becomes narrower and you ran out of road space.

“You struck her and there was a collision between your vehicle and her vehicle, a collision in which you appear to have hit her about three times as you scraped along.”

The female driver, who had three male passengers, pulled over in a layby after the roundabout and all the occupants got out to inspect the damage.

At this point, Richardson sped towards them and his car clipped the driver’s hand, causing bruising.

He was later found crouching down beside another car trying to steal its number plates and became aggressive upon his arrest.

Recorder Blackford jailed him for a year and banned him driving for 30 months.
