HOTEL staff are preparing to dish up some five-star fundraising when they take part in the Breast Cancer Care Pink Ribbonwalk at Blenheim in May.

Ten people from The George Hotel in Wallingford, including hotel manager Oliver Round-Turner, will be donning pink T-shirts and sturdy footwear for the 10-mile walk around the Woodstock palace grounds, on Saturday, May 19.

And they are hoping their efforts – and sore feet – will raise £3,000 for charity.

The annual Pink Ribbonwalk sees people tackle either a 10- or 20-mile route through the picturesque palace grounds, raising sponsorship for Breast Cancer Care’s continuing support of breast cancer patients.

Christine Atkinson, 65, from Berinsfield, works behind the bar at the High Street hotel and is responsible for ‘tapping up’ her colleagues to take part.

The mum-of-two said: “I did the Pink Ribbonwalk last year and loved it and when some of the others expressed an interest I said, “Let’s make up a team. Since then we have had 10 sign up, all ages, from their 20s to their 60s and we are all really looking forward to it.

“It should be a fab, fun day and we hope to raise thousands of pounds for people affected by breast cancer.”

The hotel team is also planning a fundraising “Wear it Pink” dance and buffet at the hotel on April 28.

The event will include a prize draw and sealed bid auction.

Tickets cost £12.50 (or £6.50 for people taking part in the Pink Ribbonwalk), and can be reserved by calling the hotel on 01491 836665.

Registration for the Breast Cancer Care Pink Ribbonwalk costs £30 with a fundraising target of £175.

Everyone crossing the finish line is rewarded with a medal, a massage and a celebratory barbecue.
