Sir – I am appalled at yet another delay on the proposed improved rail line between Bicester and Oxford. Here we have the good fortune, a railway company snapping at our heels to provide a much-needed, improved local transport facility.

Why is it, that when there is anything new, it gets bogged down whenever it gets in the confines of Oxford city? Nothing is simple, from the revamp of the Westgate, resurfacing of Cornmarket, to the mundane introduction of wheelie bins, which we have had for many years here in Cherwell.

This a very good railway company compared with that, that serves Oxford Station it seems; there is a super brownfield site just off the city bypasses, hopefully with an option to demolish an ugly grain silo, with room and have a station to serve a double-deck car park, as there is already at Bicester North.

I noted that some time ago the bats had been accommodated for, which pleases me and as for vibration, well all right, this is an engineering problem which I feel could be overcome. How about those many commuters being subject to much discomfort and inconvenience, with cancelled trains etc? I know they are only going to work and are customers. Finally I must add that I am not a commuter, have no personal benefit from the new rail line, I live near a new developing airport but I just see it from an outsider’s point of view. There seems yet again, a minority who in this instance, is lacking much concern for those many, many commuters who have little choice but to travel to work every day, in such dreadful conditions.
