OXFORD University threw open its doors this week to show off some of the research it’s working on.

Members of the public were given the chance to drop by the university’s labs in the Churchill Hospital and meet the scientists and researchers who are looking for ways to improve healthcare.

At the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre they are carrying out research into everything from vaccines to cancer.

Staff from the Oxford Vaccine Centre at the Churchill Hospital, Natalie Lella, Lucy Nicklin and Amber Thompson demonstrated diseases including malaria, tuberculosis, meningitis and typhoid.

Ms Nicklin, a clinical trials assistant, said: “We have four trials on at the moment and we were talking about some of those diseases.

“It was definitely a good opportunity to bring our work to the public.”

The event was part of the Oxfordshire Science Festival which comes to an end tomorrow.
