THEY might be on a tight budget but it doesn’t stop one group producing stunning art work.

Community group Crofters has been decorating old jam jars to use as party lights for its first birthday party.

The group, which meet three times a week at Lerwick Croft Community Hall, in Lerwick Croft, Bicester, take part in a range of activities from arts and crafts, movie afternoons, trips out and bingo sessions.

In the build up to the group’s first anniversary, members painted jars in bright colours and put candles inside, which were used to create a party atmosphere in the hall.

Organiser Nicolette MacKenzie said: “We talked about what we all did with empty jars, how they are usually recycled and broken up, so we decided let’s paint them.

“At our party we put tea-lights in jars and it looked lovely.”

Group member Doreen Nelson, 67, said: “I hadn’t ever done any painting like that before, but I really enjoyed it.”
