DO Abingdon councillors live in Cloud Cuckoo Land?
I was born and bred in Abingdon 71 years ago. Changing the name to Abingdon-on-Thames would not make much difference.
It might bring in a few tourists to see the river, but when they went to the town they would be very disappointed as most of the shops have closed down.
I had a visitor last week who moved away years ago and wanted to see Abingdon for old time’s sake.
He was shocked at the state of it. He said: “Where’s the cinema?”
I said: “Pulled down. You have to go to Didcot or Oxford for entertainment.”
