RESIDENTS can now have their say on plans to build 2,500 homes at Grove which would double the size of the village.

Developer Persimmon Homes had its outline planning application for the Grove Airfield scheme registered by the Vale of White Horse District Council yesterday.

Now the public can view the plans online or at Abbey House in Abingdon, Wantage Civic Hall and Grove Library.

The application includes a new district centre which will have a supermarket, shops, a library, and other community facilities.

Also in the plans are two primary schools, a secondary school, playing fields and large areas of open space.

A planning application has been in the pipeline for more than five years after the site was first identified for development by the council in 2002.

Roger Cox, cabinet member for planning and housing, said: “We have been anticipating this planning application for some time. Now it has arrived, we are eager to hear the views of local residents on the proposal.

“It is hugely important that we take everybody’s opinions into account when deciding such a large project.”

The application will be considered later in the year.
