WAS it accidental or was it a well-planned piece of journalism that the Oxford Mail printed John Tanner’s promise of some new “toilets worth coming to the city for” on the same day as the Man About Town columnist Jeremy Smith gave us his version of toilet heaven?

After a very long wait, we won’t get too excited about the promise of new loos. Let us hope that baby-changing facilities will be part of the equation.

They have been sadly lacking in the past.

It would be nice to see some decent disabled toilets too as they are few and far between in the city or parks.

The cost for a pee should be reasonable, thus encouraging people to use them, rather than walls and alleyways in the vicinity. Fifty pence is too much – 20p is affordable.

The loos need regular and visible cleaning. This would stop a lot of vandalism, but there should be no china basins as these are too easily broken.
