I appreciate councillor John Tanner wants to improve toilet facilities in Oxford, but, as my friend in Glasgow would say, he really has sailed down the Clyde on a biscuit if he thinks people will pay 50p to go to the loo.
I see where he is coming from in trying to prevent vandalism by bringing back attendants – this creates jobs.
Clean toilets are a basic human right – that’s what council tax pays for, but no one will pay 50p.
Arriving in Oxford at 7am for day surgery, I did have to use the night toilet, which was in a disgusting state, and as a cleaner, I feel for those who have to clean it. But 50p? No way. What a rip-off, however posh the loos may be.
