BECKY Clark needed plenty of puff to produce a note from this monster instrument.
The 17-year-old is playing the tuba during a practice session with the Oxfordshire County Youth Wind Band in 1987.
More than 40 young wind, brass and percussion players, aged 14 to 18 and from schools across the county, made up the band.
The band’s repertoire included orchestral arrangements, jazz, rock, original compositions and numbers from musicals.
It has been set up in 1982 to cater for the growing number of wind players, who could not fit into the county youth orchestra and were left with little opportunity to play in concert.
