THE article (Oxford Mail, February 20) regarding Oxford city toilets and the near half-a-million pounds to spend on upgrading them, this should never have been allowed to come to a situation like this.

If the toilets had been kept open and properly maintained in the first place this money mentioned would not have been needed for full revamps. It all boils down to bad management once again, when it’s a service that is a human right to everyone to use.

A toilet is a public convenience and one should not have to pay 40p or 50p to use it, as suggested.

Mr Tanner claims it’s a dream he has had for some time – what about the other dream he had when he decided to close some of them? For a city as famous as Oxford is, it’s been a disgrace to see this toilet situation become so poor.

Oxford, ‘the city of dreaming spires’ – it should be called Oxford, ‘the city of some dreaming councillors’.
