A teenager involved in a 100mph car chase has been locked up.

Gary Woodwards was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Monday, a month after his accomplice was dealt with.

As reported in the Oxford Mail in January, 18-year-old Woodwards was joined by Joseph Holden during a high-speed pursuit through Oxfordshire in a Ford Ka.

The vehicle, which was a courtesy car on loan to Holden’s mother, had been taken in Oxford on September 12.

After ramming a police car in Didcot, the trio sped through Long Wittenham, Clifton Hampden, Nuneham Courtenay and on to the Oxford bypass at speeds of up to 100mph.

Woodwards, of Clos Bury Capel, Abergavenny, South Wales, admitted aggravated vehicle taking at an earlier hearing and was given eight months in a young offender institution.

He was also banned from driving for a year. Two months after the 100mph chase, Holden and Thomas Noble also took a £32,000 Mercedes in Kidlington and filled up with fuel without paying before being stopped by police.

Noble, of Old Road, Headington, was given 15 months in a young offender institution after admitting aggravated vehicle taking, taking a vehicle without consent, driving without insurance and making off without payment.

Holden, of Hundred Acres Close, Headington, admitted two counts of aggravated vehicle taking and was given an 18-month detention and training order. Both were banned from driving for three years.
