Some South Hinksey residents lost more than just furniture in the flood.

Both of Stacey Norris’s cats drowned when the water came rushing through the village.

The 26-year-old said: “I’m absolutely devastated by it.

“I had them for 16 years and they were a big part of my life.”

The cats, named Mandy and Gizmo, had been sleeping in a house in the garden when the flood swept through South Hinksey and drowned them.

Ms Norris, pictured, who sent in the photographs of her flooded home, right, is a project manager at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre who lives in Manor Road with her parents Marion and Robin Norris.

She said: “I was asleep when it all started and I was woken up by the firemen banging on the door.

“The water was up to my knees inside the house and the firemen carried me across the road.

“It has been manic but the fire service have been really helpful.”

Ms Norris and her family spent last night in a hotel while their house was being cleaned.
