Oxford Bus Company is backing the city’s bid to become World Book Capital in 2014.
Each year UNESCO nominates a World Book Capital to acknowledge the best year-long programme to encourage reading and promote books.
Supporters so far have included authors, librarians, MPs and academics.
Oxford Bus Company commercial director Helen Fowweather said: “A good book and a comfortable bus or a luxury coach go so well together. We’re delighted to be supporting Oxford’s bid.”
Other organisations including Diamond Light Source and Oxford Strategic Partnership have also offered their support.
If Oxford became World Book Capital, a programme of events including activities for visitors and residents would be planned.
This would include the opening of the redesigned Bodleian Weston Library and the completion of the new Story Museum.
Oxford Inspires director Kathelene Weiss said: “The bid is about creating a lasting legacy for Oxford and Oxfordshire.”
