DETECTIVES have told knife-wielding thugs who chased a man down Cowley Road and stabbed him to hand themselves in before they are caught.

The 22-year-old victim was stabbed repeatedly in the arm and stomach during the attack in East Oxford at about 1am on Sunday and was found bleeding by friends in Temple Street.

He was yesterday said to be in a stable condition after surgery for his injuries at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Detectives are now scouring CCTV footage from shops and restaurants along Cowley Road and appealing for witnesses who were in the area at the time of the attack to come forward.

Det Insp Simon Morton said: “We are making good progress on the enquiry and I have eight detectives working on the case.

“We are hopeful of further arrests.

“If you have been involved in this assault then your best course of action is to hand yourself in now before we track you down.”

A 24-year-old man from Littlemore was arrested in the early hours of yesterday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He has been released on bail until next month.
