On the hand, one can respect retired property developer and former Headington Hill Residents’ Association chairman Martin Young’s lone campaign against the redevelopment of Oxford Brookes Gypsy Lane campus.

As a matter of principle, in a free democracy, it is right.

But equally, it would be unfair if we, the taxpayers, had to fund Mr Young’s legal costs in the event that his Court of Appeal challenge fails.

As with everything, a little moderation and common sense needs to be applied.
