OXFORDSHIRE’S MPs claimed £4,318.12 in expenses between April and August last year — with Wantage MP Ed Vaizey again wanting reimbursement for journeys by his staff worth just a few pence.

Mr Vaizey submitted and was paid a claim for 18p, for a 700-yard car journey from Wallingford School to the Old Post Office restaurant on July 8 last year, and 23p for a journey for the 880-yard trip from Didcot’s St John’s Primary School to Didcot Parkway railway station on the same day.

The journeys were made by a member of Mr Vaizey’s staff.

Last November, it emerged the Culture Minister had claimed 8p for a 350-yard car journey on February 25, and 16p for another short trip the same day.

Mr Vaizey was last night unavailable for comment, but in the past has been unrepentant about his legitimate claims.

The latest published claims were filed last August and September, for the period of April 1 to July 31 last year.

All of the MPs’ claims were approved by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Board.

Mr Vaizey claimed £1,593.16, Oxford East’s Andrew Smith claimed £893.45, Banbury’s Tony Baldry claimed £843.75, Henley’s John Howell claimed £614.96, Oxford West & Abingdon’s Nicola Blackwood claimed £304.80, and Prime Minister David Cameron claimed £68 for his staff’s rail travel.
