Another of its trademark four-act shows has been announced by The Glee Club for Saturday, January 21. With the quartet all being high-demand comics, the scene is set for an entertaining night. The most immediately recognisable name here is Tom Wrigglesworth. The multi-award-winning Yorkshireman has asserted that he may not be “much to look at” but the nation is surely listening, as his Radio 4 show Tom Wrigglesworth’s Open Letters is preparing for a second series. He won Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny and in 2010 sold out more than 30 dates on his UK tour of Open Letter to Richard Branson. This, combined with the success of his prior stand-up act Nightmare Dream Wedding, has procured Wrigglesworth a significant spot on the UK’s comedy circuit. Dominic Frisby, well known as a compère of London’s Downstairs at the King’s Head, will also be exhibiting some material. Frisby has a broad range of talents and is one of the UK’s premier voice-over artists. George Egg is another aspect of the night’s entertainment. Egg’s shows are recognised for their slap-happy use of props and musical components. He has written material for the Bafta-winning The Sketch Show and appeared on our screens in programmes such as The Bill and The Eleven O’clock Show. He has been referred to as the “Tommy Cooper of the 21st century”. Just like that! Ranking high in the poll of top Welsh comedians is Noel James, the fourth element of the Saturday night merriments. James has been presenting his acts across all major clubs in the UK for the past eight years and also delighted crowds at big festivals such as Glastonbury and Reading. n The Glee Club is in Hythe Bridge Street, Oxford. Entry between 7.15-8pm. Davey Woods
