Sir – Mr Ben Reid, chief executive of Midcounties Co-operative, justifiably complains that the building of a Sainsbury’s on the edge of Chipping Norton “will be a serious threat to current businesses in the area” (Report, January 5), and he urges West Oxfordshire District Council to refuse permission for the proposed store.
I hope that Mr Reid will also apply this good sense to his own company’s plans to build a new store on the edge of Lechlade, and desist.
Richard Martin, Cotswold Woollen Weavers, Filkins
