NEW Year’s Eve celebrations were cancelled for Badvent suspect Dayne Smith, who was arrested on December 31 after a tip-off from an Oxford Mail reader.
During our joint crime scheme with Thames Valley Police, six men wanted following thefts, robberies and drug offences in Oxfordshire were found after information came to light about their whereabouts.
Twenty-year-old Smith, of Reedmace Close, Oxford, who we featured on Day 17 of the calendar, was arrested on New Year’s Eve and was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis.
Smith was released on bail to appear at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on January 11.
Our very first Badvent suspect, Brett Ward, 29, of Cowley Road, East Oxford, was arrested two days earlier and was later charged with two counts of shoplifting and resisting arrest.
Det Ch Insp Paul Gration said: “We are pleased with the number of arrests and would like to thank the public who came forward with information.
“Although the Badvent Calendar 2011 has come to an end, our enquiries are still continuing. We have received a lot of valuable intelligence and expect to make further arrests in the coming weeks.
“I would like to extend our thanks the public and the media for their assistance in bringing these offenders to justice.”
