STAFF from an Oxford company raised £50,000 to improve surgery for cancer patients – and their employer matched the money with another £50,000.
The cheque for £100,000 was presented to the Oxford Cancer Centre by Mel Ewell, chief executive of Amey, which has its headquarters at the Oxford Science Park.
The money will go towards an integrated theatre (CIT) for the centre, which allows high-definition images to be broadcast from inside patients’ bodies.
The images allow doctors to use keyhole surgery, which reduces recovery time and the risk of infection.
The company has also sponsored the Amey Garden, which provides patients and their families with a space for reflection.
