I OPENED the paper on Saturday to see a double-page spread on Porthleven in Cornwall – what a treat.
I spent my teenage years living there and I can tell you it is indeed a beautiful place to be. I just wanted to mention a couple of my favourite things to do while in that area of the country.
A visit to Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Gweek Seal Sanctuary, an amazing place nestled in among the hills alongside the stunning Helford Estuary, this place rescues, rehabilitates (with release being the favoured goal) and provides long-term care for seals, sea-lions and other assorted marine life, well worth a visit.
Also worth visiting is St Michael’s Mount at Marazion, when the tide is low you can walk all the way across the causeway to the Mount to explore. The views from the top are amazing and when the tide is in you can hop on a boat back to the beach (which in itself is a treat), kids will love it.
And last but not least is St Ives, not only worth a visit for its galleries and art but also for its beaches, miles upon miles (50 to be precise) of rolling white and golden sand, rock pools and the best fish and chips ever.
Thank you Oxford Mail for bringing a bit of nostalgia back to me, some treasured memories right here in my local paper. Give me a cream tea over a kebab any day.
Happy Christmas to the Oxford Mail and all its readers, may you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
