A MAN was yesterday charged with tagging the word ‘Soak’ across the city last year in a spree that cost Oxford City Council almost £20,000 to clean up.

Charlie Silver, 20, of Upper Fisher Row, will face Oxford magistrates next month on four charges of criminal damage relating to tags between May 20 and September 24 last year.

The first charge relates to graffiti at the Oxford Ice Rink on August 17, where the damage was valued at £4,321 to clean up.

The second charge relates to criminal damage of a shutter on the Oxford Convenience store in Cowley Road on July 19.

The third charge is for graffiti on a wall at The Parks Sports Centre in Wheatley on June 20, valued at £1,800.

The last charge relates to the 17 other criminal damage offences throughout the year of Oxford City Council property, including walls and street furniture valued at £15,000.

Silver has been bailed to appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on January 17, 2012.
