SCHOOL by school results showing how well 11-year-olds in Oxfordshire have performed are set to be published today.

Last year, 13 county primaries fell below Government ‘floor’ targets in terms of the percentage of children achieving the benchmark Level 4 in English and maths Key Stage 2 tests.

Oxfordshire county councillors were told earlier this year the number of schools failing to make the grade was expected to rise to around 20, although data was still being assessed.

Schools improvement cabinet member Melinda Tilley said: “These are very poor results, even against our statistical neighbours we are not doing very well.

“We should not accept these poor results – we need to do something about it, all of us, and it’s going to mean a big push involving everybody.”

In 2010, 75 per cent of children in the county achieved Level 4 in both subjects, 81 per cent in English and 82 per cent in maths.

Figures were skewed by 52 schools across the county boycotting the Key Stage 2 tests.

However, the overall percentage of pupils making the grade is not expected to be dramatically different to last year.
