EVERYONE is being urged to put their best feet forward again to raise cash for Sport Relief.

Oxford has been confirmed as one of the hosts for the Sport Relief Mile next year, and enthusiastic fundraisers are now needed to take part.

It will set off from Cutteslowe Park at 11am on Sunday, March 25, 2012, as part of a weekend of national fundraising events to help needy people in the world’s poorest countries.

While only 600 spaces are available in Oxford, there are events taking place across Oxfordshire.

PE teacher Neil Busby organised a Sport Relief Mile at the Cherwell School, North Oxford, last year and about 1,000 children and staff took part.

He said: “It was really good fun – the Sport Relief Mile is something that everybody can get involved in.”

Chairman of Oxford City Athletics Club Paul Kelsey added: “It is great. I am sure it will encourage people to get out and run.”

Mark Lygo, Oxford City Council’s cabinet member for parks and sports, said: “You don’t have to be an elite athlete or marathon runner to take part in this run.

“With a one-, three- and six-mile route, this is an event that the whole family can enjoy”

Sport Relief is a national fundraising campaign for the world’s poorest countries which uses sport events to raise as much money as possible.

There are also Sport Relief Miles taking place at Oxford Brookes University, Chipping Norton Football Club and Abbey Sports Centre in Berinsfield.
