LATE night noise complaints to Oxford City Council will continue to be dealt with by a third party.

The council was criticised last year for moving its out-of-hours call cover to Cheshire after closing its own centre in Barton.

This contract has now ended but the council wants to continue the out-of-house service and is waiting on up to 14 suppliers to return tenders.

The contract will see the suppliers receive calls and then pass on details of disturbances to the council’s duty environmental health officer in Oxford.

It will run for three years, with the potential for a two-year extension, and will cost the council about £9,000 a year.

The council said it investigated providing the service in-house but “proved” that it would not be cost effective to do so.

Project approval was granted at an executive board meeting last Wednesday.
