A FATHER and son have been hailed heroes for pulling a man from a burning car after it crashed in Chipping Norton.

The two men drove past the car which had traversed the A44 just outside the town and hit a tree just after 8am yesterday.

With smoke billowing from the bonnet the two men reclined the driver’s seat and dragged the 67-year-old man to safety through the back seat of his silver Volkswagen Golf as he drifted in and out of consciousness.

Watch manager David Bray of Rewley Road fire station said: “There’s no two ways about it - he would have been burnt to death.”

A police spokesman said the driver was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment for suspected neck and back injuries and facial injuries.
