Work started this week to overhaul five class 180 Adelante trains before they return to service on routes between the Cotswolds, Oxford and London.

The £6m facelift project will include new interiors and mechanical modifications to improve the trains’ reliability. Operator First Great Western stopped using the trains in 2009 due to reported technical faults and high running costs.

They will return to service from March next year as part of a £29m Government-backed plan to ease overcrowding on Thames Valley commuter services.
