THE arrogance of our Tory controlled county council deputy leader beggars belief.

David Robertson now tells us (Oxford Mail, December 1) how disappointed he is that central Government money – tax payer to you and me – is not available to allow the proposed ‘improvements’ to Frideswide Square to take place.

Didn’t his lot foul it all up in the first place?

When all this comically entitled Oxford Transport Strategy was unleashed upon the innocent citizens of this fair city some 12-13 years ago, I believe the warnings by well advised by local professionals who actually use our road network that they were creating more problems.

They were more than well advised that their intended plans created three major bottlenecks.

They were also advised to leave Park End Street from the Castle Mound to Hollybush Row and Hythe Bridge Street from Worcester Street to Rewley Road as the two-lane, one-way giratory that was already there.

Not only was this good and free advice ignored offhand, but the HPC compounded the problem by closing off the through route at the foot of George Street. Total madness.

The county council had paid several ‘experts’ hundreds of thousands of pounds of our (tax payers’) money again to come up with these half-baked ideas.

Now the deputy leader has the cheek to tell us he’s in our corner. I think he’d be better off at home facing the corner while wearing a big pointed hat with a ‘D’ on it.

I've said before that those responsible for this nonsense should pay with their jobs.

Spending another £1.5m of our money, not yours Mr Robertson, to resolve the problem you originally created isn’t the big favour you're making it out to be, is it really?
