If you’re a movie lover and you’re aged over 60, why not join us at the Phoenix Picturehouse in Walton Street, Jericho, for three days of seasonal film magic?

Co-sponsored by the Oxford Mail, all of our movies start at 11am, so you don’t have to worry about getting home in the dark, and your ticket, which includes free hot drinks and mince pies, is simply a copy of that day’s Oxford Mail (don’t worry if you forget to take yours along, copies will on sale in the cinema foyer for 42p).

The three films being screened this year are the multi-award winning blockbuster The King’s Speech, starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, which will kick off the mini-festival tomorrow.

On Wednesday, December 14, the latest remake of Jane Eyre, released in September, will grace the screen, and on Thursday, December 15, that old classic White Christmas starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye will close the festival.

Suzy Sheriff, manager of the Phoenix, said: “The films we choose every year have a cosy-up, Saturday afternoon matinee thrill about them. It’s always very well attended, and very friendly, and the mince pies disappear with the greatest of ease.”

Jeremy Smith, Entertainments Editor for the Mail, added: “The three films this year are great. I love The King’s Speech, it’s just so gentle but fabulously uplifting, Jane Eyre is beautiful and elegant, and I wouldn’t miss White Christmas for the world. It’d be lovely to see you there.”
