Sir – I feel that a terrible injustice has been done regarding the John Radcliffe Hospital.
I recently spent about five days in the hospital after I had collapsed at home. I am 92 and my wife nearly 90. I could not get up and we called the ambulance which came very quickly. Two strong chaps soon had me up and very soon I was in a bed.
It was beautifully clean, all to myself complete with TV. Next door was a toilet and two doors away were two shower rooms complete with soap and shampoo.
I was supplied with clean pyjamas, two towels each time I had a shower and the bed was changed every day.
Before I was allowed to have a shower a nurse had to accompany me to the door to make sure that I could make it. The nurses were absolutely wonderful, from all parts of the world and spoke excellent English.
There were trolleys offering tea and coffee throughout the day. Each day a menu card was given to each patient. It started with a choice of juices or soup, plus roll and butter.
This was followed by a choice of six or seven main meals, including salads and hot meals. I tried them all and they were excellent. There was then a choice of puddings, again all excellent.
I have nothing but praise for the treatment and help that I received while in the Radcliffe and may I suggest that one of your reporters in future be tasked to give a more accurate account of how good the food and everything else really is.
